EU discusses €20 billion military aid package for Ukraine
European Union countries are negotiating a new military aid package for Ukraine worth EUR 20 billion
Bloomberg reports the information, citing its own sources.
It is stated that the aid package will be aimed at supplying artillery ammunition, air defense systems, high-precision missiles, drones, and other weapons. In addition, the aid is intended to strengthen Ukrainian military brigades.
Bloomberg notes that with this package, the EU is trying to provide Ukraine with assistance amid US President Donald Trump's desire for a quick peaceful settlement with Russia.
The publication's interlocutors also indicated that the countries' contributions include both money and weapons. The aid package will be discussed at a meeting of foreign ministers next week. After that, EU leaders will have to approve the aid.
The timing of the decision is unknown, as Hungary has said it will oppose any new military aid to Ukraine, and Germany will be holding elections.
- Earlier, the correspondent of the Espreso TV channel Tetiana Vysotska from Brussels reported that on February 24, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, would announce a large package of military aid for Ukraine for 2025, the amount of which will exceed the EU's aid in 2024.
