Ukraine’s 80th brigade destroys all North Korean forces in its sector, in Kursk region
The senior communications officer of the 80th Air Assault Brigade, Senior Sergeant Petro Haidashchuk, shared insights on how North Korean troops are operating on the battlefield
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
“Our paratroopers reported that North Korean military personnel demonstrate a high level of training. They are in excellent physical shape and have outstanding shooting skills. The soldiers navigate the terrain well, mostly avoiding the use of vehicles and covering long distances—up to 15 km—on foot. After that, they immediately proceed to assault actions. Even under artillery fire and drone attacks, the North Koreans continued advancing toward our positions. However, despite their training, all these units were eliminated, and as of now, there are none in the area of responsibility of the 80th Air Assault Brigade,” Haidashchuk noted.
Currently, the Russian army is employing the tactic of small assault groups, as the experience of the occupying forces, including North Korean units, has shown that large waves of infantry supported by armored vehicles are ineffective in modern warfare dominated by drone systems.
“The Russians are trying to use small assault groups to identify our weak points and attack them in an attempt to push us from our positions. The enemy employs artillery, reconnaissance and strike drones, as well as FPV drones with fiber-optic control, which pose certain challenges that we are successfully countering. Guided aerial bombs are mostly targeting settlements in the Kursk region under Ukrainian Armed Forces’ control. This is how Russian forces are attempting to drive us out of our positions, despite the fact that these villages are inhabited by Russian civilians,” Haidashchuk explained.
- On February 7, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that North Korean troops had resumed participation in battles in the Kursk region.
- Lieutenant Stanislav Krasnov, platoon commander of the 95th Air Assault Polissya Brigade, stated that North Korean forces, which have returned to fight on Russia’s side in the Kursk region, are now acting more cautiously than before.
