"War shouldn't be turned into war between poor and rich" - MP on economic reservation
People's Deputy of Ukraine Oleh Syniutka commented on the draft law on economic deferral from mobilization
He spoke about this on the Espreso TV channel.
“It is important that the government does not turn the war into a war between the poor and the rich, when the poor have to take up arms, and those who work in the gambling or tobacco business and have huge incomes will buy off,” said Synyutka.
The MP also added that it is necessary to create a special fund that would accumulate money exclusively for military needs.
“When the decision was made to increase the military tax and introduce additional fees, we emphasized that money is needed for the army. We need to do everything to ensure that the funds go to the Armed Forces. However, first of all, these expenses should be financed by the rich. These funds need to be raised from highly profitable industries, such as gambling and tobacco,” noted Syniutka.
What is economic reservation?
Draft Law No. 11331 provides for the economic reservation of employees liable for military service to support critical sectors of the economy.
Businesses can reserve up to 50% of their employees by paying an increased military fee and meeting the established criteria of income and lack of debt.
The mechanism is aimed at stabilizing the economy, but needs to be implemented transparently to prevent abuse.
What is known about mobilization reservations
In June, the government allowed up to 100% of employees of energy and defense companies to be reserved.
On July 17, Ukraine launched the e-booking service Diia. Currently, the service is available only for critical enterprises, but the Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to expand the business categories over time.
In less than a month, from July 17 to August 5, almost 120,000 employees of critical enterprises received reservations through Diia.
In August, the Cabinet of Ministers supported changes to a resolution that allows large Internet providers and mobile operators to reserve all their employees from mobilization.
On September 15, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said that more than 900,000 Ukrainians have received mobilization reservations, but the government allows for the possibility of increasing the volume of reservations.
