Ukraine retakes positions in Kupyansk, Russian command threatens troops with execution for retreating
Russian military command has ordered its soldiers to return to positions near a frontline settlement in the Kupyansk sector that were previously recaptured by Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Troops have reportedly been threatened with execution if they refuse to comply
This is reported by the press service of Ukraine’s Khortytsia operational-strategic troop grouping.
According to the report, over the past day, Russian forces attempted to storm Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk in the Kharkiv sector but failed. In the Kupyansk sector, Russian troops also launched unsuccessful attacks in the areas of Petropavlivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, and Zahryzove.
“Moreover, due to the active firepower of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, the enemy was forced to abandon its forward positions near a settlement. Currently, according to our intelligence, the command of the occupying army is trying to force troops back into position under the threat of execution,” the statement says.
Additionally, Ukrainian defenders held back Russian assaults in the Lyman sector near Terny and Yampilivka, where Russian forces continue to build up strength for future attacks.
In the Siversk sector, Russian troops used transport vehicles to deliver assault units near Verkhnokamianske. However, Ukrainian forces detected and destroyed the vehicles along with the troops inside before they could launch their attack.
In the Kramatorsk and Toretsk sectors, fighting continued in urban areas of Chasiv Yar and Toretsk. Russian forces also attempted to breach Ukrainian defenses near Krymske but failed to gain any tactical advantage.
- Over the past 24 hours on February 3, 110 combat engagements were recorded on the Russian-Ukrainian front. In the Pokrovsk sector, the Defense Forces repelled 38 attacks.
