Some Western politicians call on Ukraine to abandon de-occupation of Crimea, threaten with nuclear war
In the West, some politicians believe that the liberation of the Crimean peninsula by Ukrainians could lead to a nuclear war
Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in Crimea Tamila Tasheva said this in an interview with the Polish agency PAP.
“Some Western politicians are warning us. They believe that we should completely abandon our attempts to return Crimea. However, I can assure you that the connection between Crimea and Ukraine is very strong, it stretches back to Cossack times, and nothing will change this,” Tasheva said.
She emphasized that warnings are coming from some politicians. In their opinion, the return of the peninsula is possible, but it could have huge consequences for both Crimea and Ukraine. Tasheva refused to disclose their names.
“There were also theses according to which Crimea was never Ukrainian. I want to praise them, because Crimea has never been Russian. These were colonized territories, but with historical continuity and Crimean Tatar roots. The connection with Crimea and Ukraine is very strong and has been continuous since Cossack times to the present day,” the representative said.
Tasheva noted that Russia views the peninsula as a strategically important territory and is trying to appropriate Ukrainian history and culture.
The representative suggested that Ukraine could return Crimea in the near future.
