Journalist and publicist Vitaliy Portnikov believes that Putin's main goal for 2022 is to seize and control the Donbas and the South of Ukraine with the establishment of a corridor to the Crimea and Transnistria

He expressed this opinion on the air of the Espreso TV channel.

Rustam Minnekayev, the deputy commander of the Central Military District, said that the Russian Federation plans to establish full control over the Donbas and southern Ukraine and secure a corridor to Crimea and Transnistria during the second phase of the so-called special operation.

According to Minnekayev, control over the South of Ukraine is another way out to Transnistria, where there are facts of oppression of the Russian-speaking population. This is the plan of the Russian Federation which I am trying to explain and which is still not understood by many of our citizens, including our compatriots holding high posts. And if they do not understand these plans and do not draw any conclusions, then a catastrophe awaits us, which we can only avoid with the help of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Consequently, access to Transnistria is no longer about Ukraine, but about another country. Let's realize that Putin's main political goal for 2022 is the restoration of the USSR within the borders of 1991", Portnikov explained.

According to Portnikov, Putin's idea of restoring the USSR within the borders of 1991 can be reproduced through a federal state, or the inclusion of the former republics of the Soviet Union into the Russian Federation. Portnikov believes that a possible option is the annexation of the territories of Belarus and Ukraine to the Russian Federation, and parts of Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan will receive autonomy within Russia.

"We will learn about all Putin's plans later. This may be the restoration of the USSR within the borders of 1991 through a federal state, or maybe a combined solution with the annexation of the territories of Ukraine and Belarus to the Russian Federation and the autonomy of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan within Russia. The only thing is that all Putin's plans may not include the Baltic countries, because these countries are members of NATO. However, the General Staff of the Russian Defense Ministry definitely has plans to seize these countries, since we have already heard about them more than once from Russian propagandists", added Portnikov.

Portnikov emphasized that Putin's plans to seize the Baltic countries, neutral Sweden and Finland can only be destroyed by the entry of the latter into the Alliance.

"Russian propagandists have repeatedly talked about plans to seize the Baltic countries and the island of Gotland, which belongs to neutral Sweden. Such plans can only be destroyed if Sweden promptly joins NATO. However, it is obvious that after the accession of all territories to the Russian Federation, which Putin dreams of, there will be an attempt to restore the sphere of influence of the former USSR in Central Europe. That is why Moscow is trying to act with the help of its political agents in Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and the Balkans, in particular in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia. The Putin's global idea is to restore the USSR not within the borders of 1991, but of 1945", added Portnikov
