Nuclear threats may be related to Putin's psychological state - expert

Robert Pszczel, an independent analyst and senior researcher at the Casimir Pulaski Foundation, is convinced that the use of nuclear weapons would be suicide for the Russian Federation, and that talks of possible nuclear attack are linked to the psychological state of Vladimir Putin

Robert Pszczel told about this in an interview with Glavkom.

The analyst emphasized that in case of a Russian nuclear attack on Ukraine, NATO will react. And this will not necessarily be a nuclear response, the Alliance has enormous opportunities to destroy key elements of Russia's military structures.

"First of all, these are hypothetical conversations, because from a strategic or tactical point of view, this would mean crossing the Rubicon. If we continue to talk about this topic hypothetically, then any attack with the use of nuclear weapons against a NATO country would receive a response. And if, let's say that such a weapon would be used against Ukraine, then, first of all, from a military point of view, it does not make sense. I think that the Kremlin does not expect that the Ukrainians will surrender after that. Even the Russian military understands that, given the enormous length of the frontline, there would be no great tactical benefit from it. Moreover, I think that they would not be ready to use such a weapon that could also harm themselves. But if even hypothetically a nuclear strike was carried out on Ukraine, then the answer would be not necessarily in a nuclear form by NATO countries. No one would so easily ignore the use of nuclear weapons. And NATO has enormous opportunities to simply destroy key elements of Russia's military structures. Therefore, the use of nuclear weapons would be suicide for them," Pszczel said.

The expert suggested that the nuclear threats may be related to the psychological state of Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

"Perhaps, such a hypothetical threat of using nuclear weapons is related to the psychological state of the main man in Russia. Apart from some idiot propagandists, no one seriously thinks about it, because it will not bring some benefit, but will only lead to a complete disaster for Russia. Moreover, this looks like suicide, because from a logical, rational point of view, it does not make sense," the analyst said.

Robert Pszczel emphasized that Vladimir Putin is behaving even more irresponsibly with his nuclear rhetoric than the Soviet Union did before.

"I think this information was passed on to Moscow from Washington and they understand it perfectly. It is sad and dangerous that even in comparison with the Soviet Union, Putin behaves completely irresponsibly with his nuclear rhetoric. Because in the former USSR this was treated very seriously, they did not make such threats, when it came to someone's head. And then there was more responsibility for this area than today in Putin's Russia," Robert Pszczel noted.

The expert believes that the purpose of Russian threats to use nuclear weapons is to intimidate Ukraine or NATO countries into limiting aid to Ukraine. At the same time, he is convinced that the countries will not agree to such blackmail, because they understand very well that Putin will then move on and everything will happen again.
