Russia to deploy all reserves for maximum frontline gains in January — military expert Zgurets
Despite a slowdown in Russian advances on the front, January is expected to be particularly challenging as Russia will throw all its reserves to achieve certain successes
Defense Express CEO and military expert, Serhiy Zgurets, shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The Kursk region, the Pokrovsk-Kurakhove sector, and Velyka Novosilka remain the most active areas on the front. Over the past few months, Russian forces have advanced at certain paces. In November, territorial gains amounted to about 700 km². In December, this figure dropped to approximately 200 km², indicating a significant slowdown in Russia’s progress," he noted.
Although Russian troops suffer significant losses, the intensity of the fighting remains extremely high, with over 200-250 combat clashes per day.
"In the Pokrovsk, Chasiv Yar, and Toretsk directions, Russian advance is quite slow, and Ukrainian forces are even launching counterattacks. In Chasiv Yar, despite Russia’s attempts to use various offensive methods, there has been no progress. However, Ukraine must carry out countermeasures to prevent the implementation of Russia’s strategy. Russia is trying to influence our Western partners and the population through propaganda, showcasing their alleged achievements. Despite some systemic difficulties in military command, Ukrainian defense remains strong. However, certain changes in approaches to the use of forces and resources on the battlefield are necessary," Zgurets concluded.
- On December 24, Russian forces conducted active assault operations in the Kurakhove sector. Ukraine’s Defense Forces lost some positions.
