Mariupol mass burial site grows by 1,500 new graves
More than 1,500 new graves were dug at the site of a mass burial near occupied Mariupol, Donetsk region
BBC reports that “Recent satellite images from Maxar show that three mass burial sites near Mariupol located at Staryi Krym, Manhush and Vynohradne, have been steadily growing since the Spring.”
For the BBC's Panorama documentary, the Centre for Information Resilience analysed images of Staryi Krym and came to the conclusion that 1,500 fresh graves had been dug there since its previous analysis in June. Even though it claims it is unable to determine how many victims are buried at the location, it currently estimates that more than 4,600 graves have been excavated there since the start of the war.
According to the BBC, witnesses in Mariupol have said that they have seen the Russian authorities retrieving bodies from the rubble of demolished buildings in the city and transporting them for burial in recent months.
