Poland declares ‘high readiness’ for new wave of Ukrainian refugees
Poland is preparing for a possible new wave of refugees that could come after Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure
Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin Oleh Kuts said this in a comment to Radio Liberty.
According to the diplomat, the city hosts monthly meetings of the coordination group on assistance to Ukrainian citizens in the Lublin Voivodeship. At the same time, the consul stressed that there are currently no signs of an increase in the flow of refugees from Ukraine.
‘Before winter, just like last year, we pay more attention to this issue. The other day we had a meeting and worked out various scenarios. I can say that the level of readiness in the Łublin Voivodeship is high. There are lists of volunteers who helped our citizens in 2022. This list includes several hundred volunteers who, if necessary, will be gathered and involved in helping. There is a clear understanding of who will do what, who will work at the border, who will work at the railway station,’ said Oleg Kuts.
Whether there will be a new wave of refugees depends on several factors, including Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and the situation at the front, the diplomat added.
As a reminder, Poland is currently in second place among the EU countries with the largest number of Ukrainian refugees. Germany is in first place.
- In October, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner proposed to introduce a new legal status for refugees from Ukraine to help as many of them as possible find jobs.
