The UK Defense Ministry reported the information.
“The bridgehead was initially established in late November 2024, and since then Russian forces have made tactical advances in the area,” the statement says.
According to intelligence, Russia’s main focus in this area is the town of Dvorichna. The enemy is also targeting the town of Zakhidne, located 4 km west of the Oskil River.
It is believed that the Russian army is trying to pressure Kupyansk, also situated on the Oskil River, approximately 12 km south of the foothold.
“Russian forces already control the supply lines east and south of the city, and are likely attempting to take control over northern supply routes into the city,” the report says.
- Oles Maliarevych, deputy commander of the Achilles UAV battalion, stated that the Defense Forces are holding the left bank of the Oskil River and have no intention of retreating.
- Ruslan Piddubnyi, commander of the Antares UAV battalion, noted that in the Kupyansk area, the Russian army is attempting to breach the combat formations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, conducting at least 2-3 assault operations per day.
