Hungary agrees to extend Russia sanctions following pressure from Trump — Polish FM
Polish Foreign Affairs Minister Radosław Sikorski believes that Hungary’s withdrawal of its veto and the subsequent extension of EU sanctions against Russia occurred under the influence of U.S. President Donald Trump

At a meeting of the foreign ministers of EU member states in Brussels, where the decision was made to extend economic sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine, Sikorski stated that this was the result of Trump’s intervention.
According to Sikorski, Hungary’s decision to withdraw its veto was linked to a statement by Trump, who called Russian dictator Vladimir Putin an aggressor and threatened further sanctions against Russia if Moscow did not start peace negotiations. The minister believes this was Trump’s first unequivocal stance on the matter, which prompted Hungary to change its position.
“I think President Trump helped here,” said the Polish minister.
The head of Polish diplomacy was also asked about the 16th sanctions package against Russia, which might be adopted on the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine. The Foreign Minister noted that he had presented the priorities of Poland’s EU presidency, with the adoption of this package “clearly at the top of the task list.”
