Ukrainian forces clear Russian positions in Kursk region, seize key trophies

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces Command shared the information.

During the battle, Special Operations Forces operators neutralized two North Korean soldiers. Additionally, they used drone strikes to eliminate seven Russian soldiers and wound ten more.

Ukrainian forces also seized personal protective gear and military equipment from the occupying troops, including a DL-5 rangefinder, a 1PN139-1 thermal imaging sight, an AK-12 assault rifle with a 1P87 sight, and communications gear that could contain valuable information on Russian forces’ movements and plans. Russian documents were also recovered.

“The trophies, including equipment and documents, will provide important information about the enemy's tactics and resources,” the statement said.

  • On August 6, 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an operation in Russia’s Kursk region. According to a report from Ukraine’s General Staff, as of January 6, the Russian army has suffered 38,000 casualties, including killed and wounded, in the five months since the operation began. Additionally, the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured 860 Russian soldiers.
