What weapons may Israel transfer to Ukraine? Expert speculates
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has proposed transferring Russian weapons captured by the IDF to Ukraine. Similar initiatives from Ukraine’s support groups in Israel have been raised since last fall
Defense Express development director Valerii Riabykh stated this on Espreso TV.
“The issue was discussed when the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces), operating in Palestinian and Lebanese territories, seized large quantities of foreign-manufactured weapons and ammunition. These weapons were produced by countries supporting Hamas and Hezbollah, supplying them for use in the war against Israel. Naturally, this weaponry could be transferred to Ukraine, as the countries arming Israel’s adversaries are Russia and Iran. Estimates suggest that 80,000 to 100,000 units of such weapons could be available. This includes firearms, anti-tank missile systems, large quantities of multiple rocket launchers, mobile installations on pickup trucks, grenade launchers, mortars, and mortar shells,” he explained.
It is likely that the weapons would be sent to Poland, a key hub for supplying various types of weapons to Ukraine. Riabykh noted that Ukraine could at least receive anti-tank missile systems like the Kornet, Fagot, and Malyutka, which would significantly bolster Ukraine’s defense forces.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces already have experience using these systems. This weaponry would not go to waste in the military. Initially, there was consideration of putting some of these systems, such as Russian ATGMs like Kornet, into service with the IDF, which has often been done in practice. However, a more rational option is transferring this weaponry to Ukraine. In this way, it can be used against those who arm Israel’s enemies,” the military expert concluded.
- Notably, Israel recently proposed transferring captured weapons, manufactured in Russia, to Ukraine.
