Russian drone barrage hits Ukraine: casualties in Kharkiv, Odesa, Uman energy facility damaged
On January 27, Russia launched strike drones targeting Ukraine, resulting in casualties in Kharkiv and Odesa, as well as damage in the Chernihiv and Cherkasy regions
Strike on Kharkiv
At 12:37 a.m., Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported a strike on the city.
"We've had a strike, preliminarily in the Kholodnohirskyi district. There's a fire at the site. Details are being clarified," he wrote.
Later, Terekhov confirmed that Russian troops targeted a civilian enterprise in the Novobavarskyi district, sparking a large-scale fire. No casualties have been reported.
Bohdan Hladkykh, head of the city's emergency department, told Suspilne Kharkiv that a Russian Shahed drone had likely struck a woodworking facility at the enterprise.
"The strike damaged a gas pipeline used in production, triggering a large-scale fire with significant spread. Over 12 State Emergency Service units, along with equipment from the Kharkiv City Council, are actively working to extinguish it," he explained.
According to Hladkykh, the fire spans approximately 1,500 square meters. As of 3:30 a.m., firefighting efforts are ongoing.
He also reported two individuals suffering from acute stress reactions, residents of nearby areas.
The State Emergency Service reported that as of 2:36 a.m., the fire had been localized, but by 4:16 a.m., efforts to extinguish it were still ongoing. They also clarified that the injured included a woman born in 1955 and a child born in 2015.
At 4:10 a.m., another explosion was heard in Kharkiv, Suspilne reported. According to regional rescue service spokesperson Yevhen Vasylenko, a private house and garage caught fire in the suburbs following a Russian strike. Firefighting and debris clearing are currently underway.
Later, the Regional Military Administration reported that two UAVs were also found in the Kyivskyi district of the city, with no casualties.
Destruction in the Chernihiv region
Around 5 a.m., the head of Chernihiv city military administration, Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, said that the fall of the Shahed debris was recorded in the region.
“Two private houses were partially destroyed. No one was injured. Emergency services are working at the scene,” he said in a statement.
Attack on Odesa
At 6:26 a.m., Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov reported preliminary information indicating damage to residential buildings and four cars on fire.
At the time, there were no reports of deaths or injuries.
Later, Trukhanov confirmed that three people were injured in Odesa, and one person was rescued from a blocked apartment.
"The blast wave shattered windows. City services are already on-site, working to clean up the aftermath of the attack. We are establishing an operational headquarters where residents can apply for financial assistance and receive materials to temporarily cover the damage," he added.
Attack aftermath in Cherkasy region
Ihor Taburets, the head of the Regional Military Administration, said that air defense was working in the region.
“However, the Russian attacks did not go without consequences for the Uman region. All services are working to stabilize the situation in the utility sector as soon as possible. An emergency response headquarters has been deployed to coordinate actions on the ground,” he wrote.
Taburets added that no one was injured.
Mayor Iryna Pletneva clarified that a power facility was damaged.
Air defense work in Kyiv region
At 11:06 p.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported air defense in the region. Later, at 12:54 a.m., Russian drones were recorded in the region again, and air defense was launched.
