Western delays in supplying weapons to Ukraine shift battlefield dynamics - Ambassador Zaluzhnyi
Former Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi believes that the West’s delay in providing weapons to Kyiv has led to a change in the situation on the battlefield, pushing Ukraine into a state of prolonged war
He wrote this in a column for Ukrainska Pravda.
“While the West continued to fear Putin’s ‘red lines’ and prayed to avoid escalation, China, North Korea, and Iran had already united around Russia. The hesitation of democratic countries in providing Ukraine with the necessary quantity of weapons led to a shift in the battlefield situation. We have entered a state of prolonged war, the end of which is still ahead. Advanced technologies have appeared on the frontlines, which are becoming decisive and will change the global security of the future,” Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom stated.
He called on the democratic world to worry about whether this war will be confined to Ukraine.
Zaluzhnyi pointed out that dictatorial regimes are better adapted to war because they can send millions of people to dig trenches and produce shells.
“Under a dictatorship, perhaps no one would dare to evade mobilization. Dictatorial regimes know how to mobilize all resources for waging war,” he wrote.
However, according to the former commander, such regimes “cannot avoid making mistakes, as history confirms.”
“Where one person decides everything, there is no room for alternative opinions. That is why Hitler’s decision to attack the Soviet Union eventually became fatal. Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine in 2022 will also prove fatal, thanks to our incredible efforts,” Zaluzhnyi concluded.
- In October 2024, former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg admitted that he regrets Ukraine did not receive sufficient weapons before Russia’s full-scale invasion and immediately after it began.
