U.S. suspends U4U program for Ukrainian refugees
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced the suspension of the United for Ukraine (U4U) program, which was designed for Ukrainians who fled their country due to the war and sought refuge in the United States

The Voice of America reported the information.
“Due to the Jan. 20, 2025 Executive Order, Securing Our Borders, USCIS is pausing acceptance of Form I-134A, Online Request to be a Supporter and Declaration of Financial Support, until we review all categorical parole processes as required by that order,” the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services reports.
The acceptance of applications is currently frozen until the USCIS reviews all requests that have already been submitted.
Background. The United for Ukraine program allows Ukrainian citizens and their immediate relatives outside the United States to come to the country and temporarily stay there for 2 years.
- On his first day in office, U.S. President Donald Trump decided to temporarily suspend all U.S. foreign aid programs for 90 days to conduct inspections.
- The Center for International Development stated that this decree does not apply to military aid to Ukraine.
- On January 24, the media reported that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had suspended most foreign aid grants for 90 days and noted that the order could apply to Ukraine.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied the information that the United States had stopped military aid to Ukraine.
- U.S. diplomats asked to urgently exclude programs related to Ukraine from the 90-day foreign aid freeze issued by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
- On January 26, media outlets cited sources as saying that USAID had been instructed to stop all projects in Ukraine.
- The White House Office of Management and Budget ordered the suspension of all federal grants and loans.
