Brazil’s president says world is tired of Russia's war in Ukraine
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, during his visit to the EU-Latin America summit, refused to call Moscow the main culprit for the conflict and said that the world is tired of Russia's war against Ukraine
Bloomberg writes about it.
“The world is starting to get tired. Countries are starting to get tired. So the moment will come when there will be peace. And then there will have to be a group of countries that are able to talk to Russia and to talk to Ukraine," Lula da Silva said in Brussels.
He has previously pushed for talks between Ukraine and Russia, so at a two-day summit of European Union, Latin American and Caribbean leaders earlier this week, he also criticized Chilean President Gabriel Boric for his stance on Moscow.
At the summit they could not agree on a joint statement due to disagreements regarding the mention of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Nicaragua, in particular, refused to sign a statement condemning the actions of the Russian Federation.
The president of Brazil also avoided calling Moscow the main culprit for the conflict. According to one high-ranking diplomat, he was allegedly afraid of upsetting Moscow. In addition, the Brazilian president said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his American counterpart Joe Biden are also to blame for not being able to continue negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At the same time, the Brazilian leader's reluctance to adopt any tough language on Russia disappointed EU countries at the summit and strengthened Latin American countries, including Cuba and Venezuela, who opposed a strong stance.
