Brazilian President proposes to give Crimea up to Russia to achieve “peace” Ukraine responds
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva suggests Ukraine should give up the temporarily occupied Crimean peninsula and give it to Russia for "peace in the world"
Le Figaro reported the information citing da Silva's statement.
The Brazilian president said that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy "cannot want everything at once, the world needs peace... We must find a solution." Therefore, he suggests giving up Crimea and ending the "conflict.”
"(Russian leader Vladimir Putin - ed.) cannot seize the territory of Ukraine. Perhaps we will discuss Crimea. But what more he invaded, he has to think about," Lula said.
Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko responded to the statement, saying "Ukraine appreciates the efforts of the President of Brazil to find a solution to stop Russian aggression. At the same time, we must be clear: Ukraine does not trade its territories."
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that there is no legal, political or moral reason why the country should give up even a centimeter of its land.
"Ukraine's position remains unchanged: any mediation efforts to restore peace in Ukraine must be based on respect for the sovereignty and full restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter," Nikolenko added.
Earlier, during his visit to China, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva planned to propose a "peace club" with China to mediate in ending Russia's war against Ukraine.
In particular, this year Lula said that he would promote the idea of a group of mediating countries, saying that "it's time for China to get its hands dirty." "I propose to create a group of countries that will try to sit down with Ukraine and Russia to try to find peace," he added.

Brazil has also hinted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin could be arrested in the country under a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
