Europe 70% prepared for Trump’s potential return to power - Ukrainian analyst
Yevhen Kostohryzov, an analyst with the North America program at the Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism”, discussed the security and economic challenges Europe and Ukraine could face if Trump returns to power
He spoke about this on Espreso TV.
Many believe Europe is less prepared for a potentially hostile Trump policy than it was in 2016. However, the analyst disagrees, pointing to the experience European countries gained during Trump’s previous term. According to Kostohryzov, if Trump becomes president again, Europe could face avoidable security and economic problems.

“Security concerns focus on whether the United States will continue to provide security for Europe. This is where the American system of checks and balances comes in. Trump may want to pull the U.S. out of NATO, but he can't do it alone - he would need a vote in Congress, which is unlikely to happen. There’s no reason to believe the U.S. will suddenly withdraw from all its security alliances or stop supporting its European allies. However, Trump could try to reduce U.S. payments to NATO or demand more defense spending from European countries. This wouldn’t lead to an immediate crisis, but it could create a negative dynamic that Europe will need to respond to in time," Kostohryzov said.
He also warned of potential economic problems if Trump were to initiate an economic war with Europe, similar to what he did with China.

"This idea may be supported by Congress. This could affect Ukraine, as Europe would have less money, and therefore, we would have less as well. But this is not a death sentence. That’s why Europe is now better prepared for a possible return of Trump to power,” he summarized.
