Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant near blackout after Russian strike damages power line
A Russian attack has nearly plunged the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant into a blackout, disabling one of its two remaining power lines
Ukraine's Ministry of Energy reported the information.
The plant is currently connected to Ukraine's power grid by a single remaining power line. If this last line is disconnected, the Zaporizhzhia station will face another complete blackout.
The Ministry of Energy explains that this is a serious violation of safe operation conditions and threatens to cause an accident.
“For the second time this week, Zaporizhzhia NPP is under a real threat of blackout due to Russian attacks. Today, the IAEA Board of Governors will meet in Vienna, and we insist on the immediate full implementation of the resolution to return the occupied plant under Ukrainian control. This is the only way to guarantee the safe operation of Zaporizhzhia NPP,” said Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko.
- During the attack on 16 November, Russian troops damaged one of the high-voltage lines at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP).
