'Kremlin realizes that time plays against them': political analyst on power shift in U.S.

Political analyst Taras Zahorodniy believes that before Donald Trump's inauguration, the Russians will try to launch psychological operations as much as possible to put pressure on Ukraine

He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.

"It is very important to understand one key thing right now. Until January 20, we will witness an insane wave of Russian information and psychological operations, various attacks on Ukraine, talks about Kyiv supposedly agreeing to give up part of its territories, and so on. All of this indicates that the Kremlin understands time is working against them, especially as Trump assumes power in the United States. That is why they are in such a frenzy.

We are already seeing various information dumps; for example, they are actively promoting maps and documents about how they envision the world in 2025. This is happening because active strikes on Russian territory have started, which they don't like but have nothing to counter with," explained Zahorodniy.

The political analyst added that Russia does not know or understand how to respond to the U.S. allowing strikes on their territory with missiles. Therefore, the Russians are now trying to blackmail the world again and are coming up with new PSYOP strategies aimed not only at Ukraine but also at the West.

"Sometimes their comments on certain events are even laughable. Yesterday, Lavrov claimed that Ukraine hit Russian territory with something, but they still don't know what exactly. They didn't anticipate such developments and have no means to respond. So, we should brace ourselves for Russian hysteria and streams of lies, which they always propagate. I just want to note that the Biden administration finally took this step, and that’s a very good thing," he added.

  • On November 17, U.S. President Joe Biden authorized Ukraine to strike Russian territory with long-range missiles.
  • On November 18, it was reported that Biden's decision to allow Ukraine to fire long-range ATACMS missiles deep into Russian territory only applies to the Kursk region.
  • On the night of November 19, Ukraine's Armed Forces struck the arsenal of the 1046th Logistics Center near the city of Karachev, Russia's Bryansk region. According to media reports, Ukraine used ATACMS for the first time during the attack.
  • A number of embassies suspended operations after warnings of a possible major air attack on November 20. The Foreign Affairs Ministry called it a stir.
  • Various Telegram channels disseminated information about the possibility of an intercontinental ballistic missile strike on Ukraine.
  • Later, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine reported that Russia had launched PSYOP against Ukraine about the threat of a "particularly massive" strike.
