US sends tankers with record amount of oil to Europe - Bloomberg
Europe plans to import a record amount of American crude oil in March using large tankers
Bloomberg reports.
According to the agency, 11 tankers, known as Very Large Crude Carriers or VLCC, and 16 Suezmax vessels are to arrive in Europe from the US Gulf in March. They will transport 1.84 million barrels per day.
"These big ships are now hauling about 60% of the crude on the route, compared with 37% a year ago. Supertankers can haul about 2 million barrels of oil, and Suezmaxes can haul about a million," the agency said.
The journalists also emphasize that earlier, smaller Aframaxes ships with a capacity of about 700 thousand barrels were used for the voyage. However, they are now becoming more expensive, as they are most often booked to transport oil from Russia to Asia. According to analysts, the current cost of transporting crude oil from the US Gulf to Rotterdam by supertankers is $2.70 per barrel, while for Aframaxes ships on the same route it is about $8.50 per barrel.

On March 16, it became known that the United States tries not to take measures that could disrupt Russian oil supplies, as this could lead to higher prices on the world market.
