US Congress registers bill to designate Russia as state sponsor of terrorism
A bipartisan bill to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism has been introduced in the US Congress
The information was announced on the bill's page on the US Congress website, dated June 9.
It states that the document was submitted by Democratic Congressman Ted Lieu. Earlier, a bill to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism was put to a vote in September 2022.
The new document states that Russia has repeatedly provided support to non-state terrorist groups before and during the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
As of today, the list of state sponsors of terrorism in the US includes Syria, the DPRK, Cuba, and Iran. The designation allows the US to impose additional sanctions, impose a full embargo on the sale of weapons and dual-use goods, and deny economic assistance.
