Poland exposes group trained by Russian GRU plotting to influence elections
Poland has detected a trained Russian group aimed at influencing the country's elections by spreading disinformation and recruiting people for this purpose
Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski reported this, PAP reports.
"In recent days, a Russian group has been identified, another one inspired and trained by Russian military intelligence, the GRU, with the aim of influencing the Polish elections. Not only the Polish political situation but also the elections themselves," he stated.
Gawkowski emphasized that it concerns a Russian group, although it "may recruit various individuals." According to him, the individuals involved planned to influence the Polish elections through the dissemination of disinformation and "recruiting people who would create content to undermine the cohesion of Polish politics."
"Russia is waging a cyberwar against Poland — not a cold one, but already a warm one. We are the most targeted country in the European Union," he claims.
- On January 7, the Russian Foreign Ministry prepared a report on the violation of the rights of Russian citizens and compatriots in more than 40 "unfriendly to Russia" states, including Ukraine, in 2024.
