Until Russia withdraws its troops, there is nothing to talk about - Scholz
During a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that until Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine, there can be no discussion of peace
This became known from their joint press conference, which took place on Sunday, May 14, 2023, in Berlin.
“Indeed, we will support Ukraine, and this should be said everywhere. Ukraine is ready for peace, but it is quite justified in demanding that this does not mean a freeze on the war and dictation from Russia. This is an imperialist and aggressive attack on Ukrainian territory, and therefore the peace and security of Europe is at risk because a stronger country attacks a weaker one and invades its territory,” Scholz said.
He also added that the Russian president's plans are quite obvious, because he believes that Ukraine and Belarus should become part of Russia, and the attack on Ukraine is part of this imperialist concept.
“Based on the proposal of the Ukrainian president regarding the possibility of peace, all discussions should be centered around the fact that it should be clear that there is this possibility, but Russia must withdraw its troops. Because without this, there is nothing to talk about,” the German Chancellor added.
