Ukraine needs G20 summit to deepen Russia's isolation even more - diplomat Oleh Belokolos
Ukraine needs the G20 summit to further isolate Russia and convince other countries not to buy energy carriers or sell weapons to the aggressor
Diplomat, Chairman of the Board at the Maidan of Foreign Affairs Foundation Oleh Belokolos told Gazeta.ua about this.
“We should not exaggerate the influence of such international events on the world. There will be decisions of a recommendatory nature. It would be good for us if at this summit we saw the deepening of Russia's international isolation. This would simultaneously be a confirmation of international support for Ukraine in the war,” Belokolos said.
Kyiv needs not only political support, but also economic support, the diplomat adds.
“NATO and EU countries have already introduced many sanctions against Russia. But we would like countries such as China and India to join these restrictions. Because currently they want to take advantage of the war and get cheap energy and other raw materials from the Russian Federation. This is very short-sighted, and this undermines the principles of international law. In fact, they finance the Putin regime,” Belokolos adds.
Russia will try to continue attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, so it is important to warn other countries against selling weapons to the occupiers.
“The Kremlin's policy does not depend on the decisions of international summits, but on the resources that Putin has. Therefore, the world’s support regarding the prohibition of the weapons supply to the aggressor would be very important to us,” Belokolos says.
- The G20 summit will be held on November 15-16 in Bali, Indonesia.
