Ukraine signs bilateral agreement on security guarantees with Portugal
On May 28, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Portugal Luis Montenegro signed a bilateral agreement on security cooperation
This was reported by the press service of Ukraine's president.
The signing took place during Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Lisbon.
The agreement enshrines Portugal's commitment to support Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity within the 1991 borders, including the territorial sea. The document also stipulates that Portugal will provide Ukraine with at least €126 million in military support this year.
In addition, the agreement confirms the country's participation in the F-16 Coalition, the International Maritime Security Coalition, as well as in the large-caliber ammunition procurement program, mine action and maritime security efforts.
"Specific provisions of the agreement are devoted to bilateral cooperation in the defense industry, the intelligence sector, the fight against organized crime and propaganda, and countering chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear risks," Zelenskyy's press service said in a statement.
It is noted that Portugal will support Ukraine on its path to NATO.
The document also states that Lisbon supports President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula, bringing the aggressor to justice, strengthening sanctions against Russia, and creating a mechanism for compensation for crimes.
"Portugal also commits to continue its participation in the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children and to contribute to the achievement of the objectives set out in the Framework Document of this Coalition," the press service said.
Portugal has become the 12th country with which Ukraine has signed a bilateral security agreement to implement the provisions of the G7 Joint Declaration adopted in Vilnius on July 12 last year. Prior to that, Ukraine signed bilateral agreements with the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Spain, and Belgium.
