Strong Ukraine is important for Poland, regardless of U.S. elections - Polish MP
Piotr Górnikiewicz, Member of the Poland's Sejm, Deputy Head of the Poland 2050 Club, noted that after the U.S. elections, Ukraine and Poland faced new challenges, and some of them are unknown yet
He said this at the Via Carpatia 2024 forum, aired on Espreso TV.
‘The situation has changed dramatically after the U.S. election. We are facing new challenges that we do not know very well yet. The policy of the new U.S. president is unpredictable. So we are waiting for the first key decisions. Of course, we in Poland are aware that the key element for us is to build a new strong Ukraine, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in,’ Piotr Górnikiewicz said.
According to the Sejm member, Ukraine and Poland face many challenges. These challenges will allow us to rebuild and expand relations between Poles and Ukrainians. He mentioned logistical challenges, as well as challenges related to the provision of major transport hubs - the main points for transshipment and logistics.
Piotr Górnikiewicz also added that Ukraine and Poland must cooperate in the face of new challenges, such as powerful Russian propaganda: we must clearly filter disinformation, which has a strong impact on our relations and is becoming a problem. Cyberattacks from Russia also have a significant impact.
‘That is why we have to develop our cooperation in cyber defense. We must conduct joint exercises as part of an early warning system and look for keys to protecting critical infrastructure, both in one and the other country. The whole of Poland considers security cooperation with Ukraine to be a condition for strengthening the resilience of both states in the face of Russian armed aggression and all hybrid actions,’ Górnikiewicz concluded.
On November 13, the Ukrainian-Polish Meeting conference was launched as part of the Seventh International Forum for Central and Eastern Europe Via Carpatia 2024. Scientists, parliamentarians, government officials, and artists from Poland arrived in Kyiv under the leadership of Marcin Bosacki, chairman of the Polish-Ukrainian parliamentary group.
