Poland deploys tanks near Russian border
The first K2 tanks from South Korea have arrived in Poland and will be stationed in Braniewo, near Russia's Kaliningrad region
Major Magdalena Koscinska, spokeswoman for the 16th Pomeranian Mechanized Division, reported the information, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.
The K2 tanks are produced by the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem. They arrived at the 9th Armored Cavalry Brigade on trailers.
On Thursday, representatives will finalize the formalities required for accepting the tanks. The next step will be equipping the tanks with systems used in the Polish army, including communication devices.
Major Koscinska mentioned that the 9th brigade received seven tanks in the first batch, with another batch expected by the end of the year. She also noted that there are currently eight trained crews in the unit, who have completed training with instructors from the 20th Mechanized Brigade.
- Last year, Poland deployed a new tank battalion in a village near the border with Belarus, as part of the 1st Infantry Division.
