The UK Ministry of Defense reported the information.
According to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Russian arms exports decreased by 53% between 2014-2018 and 2019-2023.
Consequently, Russia has slipped from second to third place in the global arms export rankings. Moreover, in 2023 alone, exports were 52% lower than in 2022.
British intelligence notes that last year, only 12 countries received significant Russian weaponry, down from 31 in 2019.
Experts suggest that the export downturn may stem from declining demand due to the risk of sanctions and global condemnation over Russia's role in the war, as well as prioritization of equipment for operations in Ukraine amid continuous battlefield losses.
- Recent reports indicate that in the race for global arms exports, the USA and France have emerged as leaders, while Russia has experienced a sharp decline.
