Leopard tanks, bridge-laying tank, drones, ammunition: Germany announces new aid package for Ukraine
Germany has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine. In particular, it includes tanks, armored vehicles, bridge builders, trucks, drones, and ammunition
This was reported on the German government's website.
The German government also noted that about €5 billion has already been allocated for military assistance to Ukraine in 2023 and about €1.6 billion in 2022. In addition, an additional €2.9 billion was allocated in the first two years of the full-scale war for supplies that will be delivered only in 2025-2028.
The new military aid package includes:
- 10 Leopard 1 A5 battle tanks (jointly with Denmark);
- Bergepanzer 2 ARV armoured recovery vehicle;
- Bridge-laying tank Beaver;
- Pionierpanzer Dachs armoured engineering vehicle;
- 16 Mercedes-Benz Zetros trucks;
- 4 Wisent 1 engineering vehicles;
- 34 RQ-35 Heidrun reconnaissance drones;
- 20 VECTOR reconnaissance drones with spare parts;
- 8,500 rounds of ammunition for 155 mm artillery;
- 1.75 million rounds of ammunition for firearms;
- 111 Haenel CR308 rifles, 80 Haenel HLR338 sniper rifles, 540 Haenel MK556 assault rifles;
- 20 MG3 machine guns for Leopard tanks, Marder armored personnel carriers and engineering vehicles.
The government also said that since the beginning of the great war, Germany has supplied €5.2 billion worth of materiel from the Federal Armed Forces' stockpile.
"Also, more than 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers have received military training in Germany. Expenses for this training so far amount to approximately 282 million euro. Additional expenses, not calculated here, result from medial treatment of injured soldiers," the government report said.
- On May 22, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov thanked Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles for providing a new batch of Leopard tanks and told what other weapons were included in the country's aid package.
