Bomb squad clears path to car with deceased man in Kharkiv region over three days
Kyiv police explosive ordnance disposal team has spent three days clearing path to retrieve body of 34-year-old van driver in Kharkiv region
Ukraine's National Police reported the information.
A resident of Izium district filed a statement with law enforcement officers about the disappearance of her partner - the woman said that her husband had left home and did not return. To search for him, the police used a drone, which helped them find a vehicle damaged by an explosion in a field that was similar to the missing man's car.
Explosives specialists from the Kyiv police, who are currently working in a consolidated unit in the Kharkiv region, spent three days clearing the way to the car to retrieve the body of the 34-year-old deceased driver.
"The tragic incident occurred in a field that was densely mined by the Russians with anti-tank mines. In order to 'break through' the road to the van, we first used metal detectors and probes. Later, to speed up the search for enemy ammunition, we used an unmanned demining platform, which helped us cover about 500 meters," says Ihor Voitsekhivskyi, Deputy Head of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department of the Kyiv City Police.
When the passage became safe, police officers, together with the involved services, removed the body of the deceased so that his relatives could bury him. In total, experts have already discovered about 100 TM-62 anti-tank mines during the work on this site.
- On June 12, partner countries increased assistance for humanitarian demining in Ukraine by more than $35 million: projects will be implemented until 2027.
