Downed missile hits residential building in Kursk: Fire erupts, casualties reported
Explosions rocked Kursk on the evening of Saturday, August 10. Local authorities reported that a downed missile struck a nine-story residential building injuring 13 people
The announcement came from the governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov.
"Today, a Ukrainian missile was downed and fell onto a residential building in Kursk. A fire broke out. All emergency services arrived at the scene," Smirnov wrote at approximately 12:20 AM.
According to the governor, there were no fatalities from the fire in the building. However, 13 people were reportedly injured, with two in serious condition.
Kursk emergency services reported that a nine-story residential building suffered damage, including smashed windows, damaged balconies. Several cars caught fire. Their report indicated that 15 people were rescued, and 30 were evacuated from the fire-stricken structure.
Kursk’s administration head, Igor Kutsak, said residents of the affected building are being relocated to a temporary shelter in a nearby camp.
Around 11:52 PM, the Russian news agency TASS reported that air defenses were active over Kursk, with approximately 10 explosions heard.
Residents of the Kursk region were alerted to the missile threat around 11:30 PM. Governor Smirnov also mentioned the alleged work of the Air Defense Forces.
Russian propagandists are already labeling this as the most significant attack on Kursk since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
