At least 1 unit damaged at Russia's Slavyansk refinery after drone attack
On May 19, a drone attack damaged at least one unit at the Slavyansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region, Russia
The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported this with reference to a representative of the Slavyansk ECO company.
The extent of the damage is still unknown, he added.
According to the Russian service of Radio Liberty, on the night of May 19, the authorities of Russia's Krasnodar region reported that a drone had crashed into the refinery, saying that there was no fire, no damage, and no injuries.
In the morning, the administration of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, where the plant is located, clarified that six drones had crashed on the plant's territory, saying that, according to preliminary data, there were no injuries or damage.
Later, Eduard Trudnev, Director of Integrated Security at Slavyansk ECO Group, said that there was visible destruction on the territory of the enterprise. The refinery has temporarily shut down.
The day before, Radio Liberty learned from its own sources that on the night of May 19, drones of the Ukrainian Security Service attacked the Russian military airfield Kushchyovskaya and the Slavyansk oil refinery in the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation.
This is the second attack by SBU drones on the Kushchyovskaya military airfield and the Slavyansk oil refinery in the last three weeks. Earlier, several planes were hit at the airfield, and the distillation and atmospheric columns at the refinery were hit.
In recent months, drone attacks on oil refineries and other important infrastructure facilities in Russia have become more frequent. Kyiv has confirmed its involvement in some of them. These strikes are likely part of an attempt to reduce fuel supplies to the Russian military and could also reduce export revenues that Moscow uses to finance the war.
