Putin in Mariupol: what Russia is saying
Russian propaganda message about Putin visiting the occupied Mariupol is an interesting illustration of the aggressor’s thinking process
It’s something like, let the UN commission and the International Criminal Court do whatever they want while we demonstratively show our dear fuhrer around the crime scenes. We will also visit the theater that we destroyed, defiling the memory of the innocent people we killed here.
In the Western world, the language of symbols is very important. By doing what he did, Putin eliminates doubts in those who are still hesitating about how the war should end. So we are waiting for news about new aid packages to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia.
Meanwhile, the already introduced sanctions have their results:
1. Russian oil exports have shifted to a fleet of tankers with unclear ownership and inadequate insurance, raising concerns about the ability to respond to potential disasters. Therefore, environmental crimes will soon be added to all their crimes.

2. In 2022, 75% of enterprises faced problems due to the refusal of foreign counterparties to supply to Russia, 43% were affected by problems with logistics, 31% experienced difficulties with cross-border payments. "Import substitution" in Russia is failing.
3. The record-breakingly expensive reconstruction of BAM and Transsib, which has been delayed for several years, has led to a lack of capacity for transport routes in the eastern direction.
4. As of February 1, 2023, Russian households had 7.33 trillion rubles of cash in foreign currency, or $105.4 billion. This is a record volume since 2018, according to available statistics.
5. From July 1 to December 1, 2022, the volume of currency cash of households in Russia increased by $4.3 billion against $1.3 billion reflected in the old statistics.
Russians do not believe in the prospects of their country and its ruble.
