Energoatom called on the world community to stop Putin's nuclear terrorism
Petro Kotin, head of NNEGC Energoatom, called on the leaders of the World Association of Nuclear Power Plant Operators (WANO) to help stop nuclear terrorism perpetrated by Russian occupation forces.
Petro Kotin stressed this during the 85th meeting of the Board of Governors of the Paris Center of the World Association of Nuclear Power Plant Operators (85TH WANO PC GOVERNING BOARD), reports "zahid.espreso".
During his speech, the head of Energoatom, in particular, stressed that for the first time in world history the planet was faced with obvious and cynical nuclear terrorism, which was ordered directly by vladimir putin.
"Tanks and heavy artillery fired on a peaceful nuclear power plant - the six-block Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, the largest not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. This was done by Russian troops. And they did it not because they wanted to or because they did not know the potential consequences "And because they received an order from Russia's top leadership. They did so by ignoring the people who live and work nearby, ignoring the tranquility of the city nearby and the danger they pose to the world," Kotin said.
He stressed that responsibility for the consequences of a potential catastrophe and responsibility for the future not only of Europe but of the whole world now lies with everyone because radiation has no borders.
The head of Energoatom urged the audience not to make a fatal mistake: "Stop what’s happening if you want to live, raise your children, see your grandchildren. Stop nuclear terrorism, it's mad customers and executors who have neither soul nor mind. Stop, while all this can be stopped! Tomorrow may be too late. For all of us!"
Petro Kotin voiced four initiatives to the heads of the WANO centers in Paris, Atlanta and Tokyo:
1) cooperation between NNEGC Energoatom and WANO may be carried out through the Paris Center or as a result of further accession to the Atlantic Center;
2) to create another regional center for NPP operators with WWER reactors, where all specialists will have proper communication with each other, which will allow them to fully implement all WANO programs. At the same time - to consider the possibility of liquidation of the Moscow center;
3) prepare official statements to the UN, NATO, governments, and international organizations requesting to close Ukrainian airspace to Russian aircraft and prohibit the Russian military from being within 30 km of peaceful nuclear facilities and spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste storage facilities, and even more so attack such objects;
4) consider organizing urgent missions to the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhya NPPs to monitor the level of nuclear safety - of course, without the involvement of the Moscow regional center of the organization.
Kotin hopes that the world will listen to and support these initiatives, especially to avoid tragedies such as Chernobyl and Fukushima.
We remind you that on February 24 this year, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The OSCE chairman called Russia's actions an act of state terrorism.
The head of Energoatom Petro Kotin has previously stated that the Russian aggressors are blackmailing Ukraine and the world with their physical presence at the Zaporizhia and Chernobyl nuclear power plants.
We will add, processes of explosions on the Zaporizhzhia NPP are controlled by the Russian nuclear power plants.
"What other terrorist attacks are needed for decisive action by the IAEA?"
