Since February 24, Russian occupiers have destroyed 189 monuments of cultural heritage in Ukraine, including 82 religious buildings
Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova reported about that.
"Together with lives of civilians and military, residential buildings and infrastructure, aggressor state's troops are destroying cultural heritage of Ukrainian people," she said.
Russian shelling destroyed dozens of Ukrainian churches, theaters and memorials.
"According to Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, 189 cases of destruction of such facilities have been recorded," said Lyudmila Denisova.
In total, Russians destroyed or damaged 74 cultural heritage sites, 82 religious buildings, 21 memorials, 15 buildings, museums and reserves, 17 houses of culture, theaters and libraries.
"Destruction and damage of Ukraine's tangible cultural heritage is a gross violation by Russia, as a member of UNESCO Protocol to UNESCO Convention for Protection of Cultural Property during Military Conflict. I appeal to UN Commission to Investigate Human Rights Violations Russia's human rights violations in Ukraine. I call on international partners to close the sky over Ukraine and provide weapons to fight Russia's aggressor country! " - ombudsman emphasized.
