Baerbock: Jeddah Summit shows Russian aggression has consequences far beyond Europe
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock believes that the Jeddah summit shows that Russian aggression against Ukraine has consequences far beyond Europe
She made the statement in an interview with the Bild am Sonntag.
"The signal from Jeddah is that the brutal war waged by Russia also affects people in Africa, Asia and South America. Because it has consequences far beyond Europe: from the future of the international order to energy security. It also means rising grain prices and the global food supply that Russia has so ruthlessly worsened," she said.
Baerbock also praised the efforts of all countries at the summit.
"Every millimeter of progress toward a just and fair peace brings a piece of hope for the people of Ukraine," Baerbock emphasized.
She also added that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy "has shown a very determined way to do this with his peace formula." The minister emphasized that the UN Charter should be a common basis everywhere.
Meeting of national security advisors in Jeddah
This weekend, on August 5-6, over 40 countries met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to discuss ways to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting was held at the level of national security advisors. As previously reported in the press, Saudi Arabia was chosen as the venue for the meeting in order to try to force the world's leading countries, which have so far remained neutral, to support the Ukrainian principles of ending the war.
This is the second meeting at the level of national security advisors and political directors on the key principles of peace based on President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula. As Ihor Zhovkva, Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Office of the President, reported on the eve of the discussions in Jeddah, the number of participants increased from 15 to almost 40 after the success of consultations in a similar format in Copenhagen on June 24. Additional countries from the Global South were also involved.
Details of the summit in Saudi Arabia are available online at Espreso TV.
