Poland develops plan for civilian evacuation in case of natural disaster or war
The Polish Interior Ministry is developing a plan for the evacuation of civilians and national cultural property in the event of a natural disaster or military threat
The Associated Press reported the information.
The published government communiqué states that the relevant project should be ready within three months.
The outlet noted that this stems from the law on the protection of civilians, which came into force on January 1, and was caused by the recent floods in southern Poland and the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The draft law, which must be approved by Prime Minister Donald Tusk's cabinet, requires that at least 0.3% of the annual gross national product be spent on evacuation preparedness.
The decree will define the responsibilities and coordination of the various civil security services that will be involved in evacuating people. It should also provide recommendations for safe evacuation and protection of cultural property.
- In September 2024, several districts in Poland were hit by floods, putting more than 2 million people at risk.
