China, Russia shape world's news agenda through social platforms — Ukrainian diplomat
Ukrainian politician and diplomat Roman Bezsmertnyi says that social platforms shape the position of society but have not yet seriously influenced the stance of the world elite
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov tossed a phrase when he spoke about the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in the so-called Great Patriotic War and the victory won by Russia and China against fascism. Here, every word requires clarification—against whom, and what does it mean by China, the Russian Federation, and so on. This was said on the eve of Christmas, which was picked up and presented in Bloomberg and SkyNews as a kind of control shot in the head,” commented Roman Bezsmertnyi.
According to him, Lavrov, answering the question, began to talk not about Russia, its actions, and position, but instead listed the positions of China and Brazil. In support of this, he referenced the joint victory of Russia and China in the Great Patriotic War, emphasizing the nations that suffered the most catastrophic consequences from German fascism and Japanese militarism.
“Literally the next day, these things were picked up, and the reason was that the question asked by the journalist was prepared and related to the negotiation process. In the same interview, in the final part of the interview, Lavrov said that until the U.S. changes its doctrine, the essence of which is that Russia is the enemy, there will be no negotiation process. Neither Bloomberg nor Skynews, nor the Wall Street Journal, paid attention to these things, but they picked up the May 9 theme. Some began to replicate it as a certain benchmark date for a specific event, while others attributed it to the negotiation process. Neither the former nor the latter has any meaning,” the diplomat said.
In his opinion, today the entire world's news narrative is unfortunately dictated by China and Russia through various social platforms.
“And in fact, this determines the future, because, as we understand, electoral democracy is linked to society, which begins to shape the position of the establishment. So far, this has not seriously affected the position of the global elite, but today it is certainly shaping society, the position of the masses,” Bezsmertnyi summarized.
