Ukrainian forces achieve tactical successes in Kursk region — ISW
On January 5, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) published a report stating that Ukrainian forces have resumed offensive operations in the Kursk region. It notes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have successfully advanced on at least three fronts
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated this in its report.
According to Russian sources, Ukrainian forces conducted multiple roughly company-sized mechanized assaults in the Berdin-Novosotnitsky direction (northeast of Sudzha) in three waves of attack using roughly a battalion's worth of armored vehicles. In addition, increased offensive activity was recorded near Leonidovo and in the Pushkarnoye area.
Geolocated footage published on January 5 indicates that Ukrainian forces advanced in fields southwest and south of Berdin and entered the southern part of the settlement.
Russian military bloggers noted that Ukrainian forces now also control Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, Martynovka, and Mikhaylovka. Furthermore, Ukrainian forces recently entered Novosotnitsky and advanced in the fields to the west of Yamskaya Step and west of Novaya Sorochina.
The ISW noted that Ukrainian forces continue tactical operations near Nikolskiy and Alexandriya. Meanwhile, Russian observers express concerns that this may be a diversionary maneuver and believe it is currently difficult to predict the possibility of further large-scale operations in the Kursk region.
