Ukrainian FPV drones update to boost effectiveness against Russian recon UAVs
Ukrainian FPV air-defense drones are being upgraded for greater range and effectiveness, enabling high-altitude strikes and expanded operations against Russian UAVs
Defense Express reported the information.
Ukrainian FPV air-defense drones, which have already proven highly effective, are receiving updates that enhance their ability to destroy Russian reconnaissance UAVs.
Volunteer Serhiy Sternenko shared a video showing fighters from the SIGNUM unit of the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade shooting down a Russian Supercam reconnaissance drone.
It is noted that this was an "unusual takedown" of the drone, as a Russian reconnaissance UAV was shot down "deep in Russian-held territory." Understandably, no further details about this combat episode are provided.
The 93rd Mechanized Brigade highlighted that anti-air FPV drones are far superior to traditional ZU-23-2 systems, enabling strikes at higher altitudes, crucial as Russian UAVs often operate above 2,500 meters. These drones also boast impressive speed, with models like the Wild Hornets reaching 325 km/h. Additionally, Defense Express previously detailed how Ukrainian forces effectively use FPV "shotguns" to counter Russian drones, addressing key operational challenges.
“But in any case, we have good news about the proactive development of anti-aircraft FPV drones in an important area - range, which will significantly expand the use of these weapons against Russian drones,” Defense Express concluded.
