Trump's team: loyal and obedient
Trump’s appointments aren’t about being for or against Ukraine, they’re about being for or against Trump himself
Personal loyalty is the key factor in the U.S. president-elect’s staffing decisions. Historically, after losing bipartisan support for Ukraine, expressing support for Trump and criticizing Biden strongly has also meant opposing increased aid to Ukraine.
Remembering his confrontation with the intelligence agencies during his first term, Trump is now seeking to protect himself from excessive oversight by appointing only "his" people to lead the security services this time.
Professional qualifications are clearly not the top priority, and the renowned American institutional system will soon have to show its resilience.
Ukraine will also need to deal with the consequences of emerging political trends in the United States. The appointment of a special envoy for Ukraine to negotiate an end to the war will be crucial. I believe this appointment will happen in a matter of days, or at most, weeks.
