Trump is unlikely to change his rhetoric

The biggest issue for Ukrainian Trump supporters is their strong belief that the current U.S. administration is the worst possible choice

Yes. The current line of the American administration is rightly very annoying to many Ukrainians. After all, it is possible to be faster, bigger, more decisive. Yes, it is possible. But the belief that it can't get any worse is a pure logical fallacy.

First. There have been many examples in American history of much less decisive policies. For example, Eisenhower's policy towards Israel or Korea. Ike was generally a great de-escalator.

Second. When the candidates - Trump and his vice president - openly say that they don't care about you, they will force you to negotiate, and they avoid the issue of arms supplies, it is rather strange to conclude that Trump will come and change his rhetoric and actions to the opposite. Because he has to, or because he's a Republican, or for some other reason off the top of his head.

Of course, he may change the rhetoric and policy in a way that is better for us, because politics is a fickle thing. But what are the reasons to believe that this will happen? What are the chances of this happening? What arguments support this position? The fact that Democrats are "bad"? But this does not mean that Trump is becoming "good." The fact that "Sullivan cocooned de-escalation"? Have you read and listened to Vance and Trump's son?

I'm not talking about the internal aspect. The outright authoritarian schemes, right-wing radical rhetoric and environment, and a huge segment of supporters are extreme religious fanatics or conspiracy theorists. QAnon alone is substantial. Plus, attempts to really hack the American system of checks and balances on which democracy rests.

This is interesting. Is a country that is going through an acute political crisis with an attempt to solve accumulated problems and divisions by adding gasoline to the fire (and this is Trump's policy) going to be an effective assistant to Ukraine and democracies around the world? Is that how it works? Or does it not?

In our criticism of the current administration—whether justified or not—we should not overlook the complete picture of available information about the "redheaded patient." It’s important to remember a simple rule: things can always become worse than they are now.
