Chinese, French, Americans mull 'third Yalta without Russia' concept - Piontkovsky
Political analyst Andrey Piontkovsky says major powers like China, France, and the US are crafting a new global relations concept dubbed 'the third Yalta without Russia'
He said this in an interview with the host of the Studio West program, Antin Borkovskyi.
Piontkovsky expressed the opinion that the Chinese leadership clearly sees Russia's weak position in the international arena and can use it to its advantage: “Our Chinese comrades are well aware of Russia's humiliated position. I would point out that, in my opinion, many people underestimated Macron's meeting with Xi. Judging by the explosion of publications - both in the Chinese and French press - it was very successful. Macron took Xi somewhere to the places of his youth in the Pyrenees.”
The political scientist drew attention to French President Emmanuel Macron's recent meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which he described as successful and significant for the future of the world order.
“Today, the great powers are China, the United States, and France. France has realized - for the first time in the last decade - its role as a great power, its aspiration for the grand rôle de la France. This aspiration is the main driver for Macron in his claim to become the leader of the free world, the leader in Ukraine's defense in the war. The Russians had, and still have, the dream of a 'second Yalta.' For 10 years, they offered a 'second Yalta': let's divide the world, we will have the post-Soviet space, Ukraine and the rest, and you will have somewhere else. But the Chinese, French, and Americans are now working on the concept of a 'third Yalta without Russia.' Macron is playing a very interesting game there. What do he and Xi have in common, you know, where they found common ground? Not only that Russia will not be a great power, but they do not want American domination in the future world. Macron has a very strong American component, and the Chinese are very much in favor of that,” he explains.
