Speaking to reporters, Duda stated that President Trump said that he expects an increase in the US presence in Poland. He added that the security of Poland and Central Europe should be strengthened, but Trump replied that Poland should not worry.
Duda did not comment on the recent tension between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy but shared that Trump appeared keen on making Ukraine stronger, including through economic ties.
The exchange follows Trump’s false comments on Zelenskyy, where he called the Ukrainian president a “dictator” and urged him to quickly seek peace with Russia to avoid losing the country.
Despite the shift in tone from the US, Duda emphasized Poland’s strategic importance, with the White House later confirming that Trump praised Poland’s commitment to increasing defense spending.
On the topic of Ukraine, Duda stressed that the war could not be won without US support, saying that this war must be ended somehow. He also mentioned a recent frank conversation with Zelenskyy, following discussions with Trump's envoy.
