We should not ignore pro-Trump congressmen's letter to Biden calling to stop aid for Ukraine
Valery Chalyi, Ukraine's former extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to the USA from 2015-2019, believes that it was a mistake that representatives of the Ukrainian delegations in the USA did not work seriously with the congressmen from a particular group
He expressed this view during an interview with Espreso.
Chalyi was commenting on the appeal made by a group of 20 far-right Republicans to US President Joe Biden, calling for an end to military aid to Ukraine. He stated that ignoring this letter would be a short-sighted position. Although the letter was only from a portion of the Republican group in Congress, he warned that it was prepared seriously and could be dangerous. The appeal suggested that the priorities should be directed towards China and the Chinese threat, and military aid given to Ukraine should only be adequate to speed up the end of the war and achieve victory.
Chalyi emphasized that working with each of these congressmen was necessary, as it is easy to work with those who support Ukraine, but it is essential to work with all members of Congress. He noted that there were different people in this group, including the pro-Russian libertarian Rand Paul, and it was crucial to work with them. According to Chalyi, Ukraine should not assume that such bipartisan and bicameral support for Ukraine will last forever. It is necessary to work with every senator and congressman seriously.
