"We are on your side": Macron congratulates Ukrainians on Independence Day
In a video message, Emmanuel Macron has congratulated Ukrainians on the 31st anniversary of Ukraine's independence
The French president posted the video on his Twitter account.
"In 31 years, your nation has changed, become stronger. In your unity, you have drawn your strength. That is why this day, August 24, should be a day of celebration, joy and pride. It is a day of pride, but instead of legitimate celebrations, today we think of the fallen and fighters, about the courage and resilience of your people," Emmanuel Macron said.
The French president also noted that Russia underestimated the courage of the Ukrainian people when it decided to launch a full-scale invasion six months ago. He emphasized that Ukraine can count on the support of France and other nations during hostilities and during future reconstruction. According to him, humanitarian aid will arrive in Ukraine from Marseille in a few days.
"Protecting the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine means protecting the stability of our world," Macron emphasized.
At the end, Emmanuel Macron said that Ukrainians can be proud of themselves and their country, which they built in 31 years.
"That's why today, six months in a row after the start of this war, this aggression of Russia against Ukraine, on this 31st birthday, you can be proud of this 31 years of modern life of your country with its own borders and its incredible resistance, which has lasted for six months . We support Ukraine. We are on your side. And it will continue in the future."
