Russian troops execute 5 Ukrainian POWs in Zaporizhzhia region
The occupying Russian forces executed five Ukrainian prisoners of war near Novodarivka in the Zaporizhzhia region. Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office has launched an investigation
Ukraine's Office of the Prosecutor General reported the information.
The incident is reported to have occurred on November 24, 2024, near the village of Novodarivka in the Polohy district of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region, where active combat is currently underway.
Law enforcement established that Russian servicemen executed five Ukrainian defenders out of six who had been captured.
"Law enforcement has identified the unit of the Russian army whose soldiers are currently being investigated for their involvement in this crime. Investigators have also obtained a video recording documenting the moment of the execution," the statement said.
The Office of the Prosecutor General reminded that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.
